This has been quite a week! After traveling to Michigan to second shoot with Jen Badalamenti I visited my sister in Wisconsin, then promptly returned to DC to shoot an exquisite wedding. I really do adore my job and I am grateful every day to do what I love. After a wonderful (and rather loooong) week I need to feast my eyes on something gorgeous and flowers are just the ticket.
My sister attended Wolf Trap's Sound of Music Sing-Along this past weekend. I was dazzled at how many enthusiasts arrived, dressed as some of the "favorite things," brown paper packages tied up with string, silver white winters that melt into spring. The list was pretty intricate! If I had attended the sing-along I would have come dressed as my favorite thing, a gorgeous bouquet of flowers.
I adore well done florals. Florals can either add or detract from the overall feel of a wedding. Florals are more complicated than one might imagine. My favorite bouquets have a balance of tight and loose, texture and lightness. I love tiny delicate branches stretching out organically from a bouquet. The top right image is a perfect example of this.
Janie Medley of JM Flora and mega-blog The Bride's Cafe has such a handle on the composition of a bouquet. I have had the pleasure of working with Janie on many occasions, each time marveling at her natural knack for interweaving the perfect elements. These images are a collection of head-on images that I have captured of Janie's work over a year. I hope you are as inspired as I am. Breathe it in and have a fabulous Friday!
